2003-04-07 : Scarborough Fair
Ya know..I'm craving a big, juicy, greasy, ketchupy slice of meatloaf right now. Can't say why. I used to DESPISE meatloaf as a child. Mom didn't make it very often but when she did I barely ate it. I can't remember when my conversion took place but I've liked it for awhile now. I think I'll only work 5 hours today..I need to go to the library and I want to get a headstart on my laundry (and I imagine the other tenants in our building won't be doing their laundry at 4pm on a Monday afternoon.) It's been kind of cold recently. It's seemed more like February not April and it's been raining for days (with a few sunbreaks)...Overall, we've had an incredibly sunny winter, though (which is rare for Seattle) so my complaining stops here. Last night after watching Rain Man (Jay and I were imitating Raymond alot..we are very stupid) I continued my new book which is called "Into the Wild"..it's a true story based on this:

"In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his and car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Four months later, his decomposed body was found by a moose hunter...."

It's pretty fascinating and quite grim...This kid renames himself "Alex" (He sometimes refers to himself as "Alex Supertramp" (which just makes me think of that terrible band...and not a nomad!)

In other fascinating but grim news..the cats have fleas now. I feel very itchy. I know it's purely psychological cuz I don't have any flea bites, plus when they have an animal host, they don't tend to chow down on humans. When I get paid on Friday I will get a flea comb, Advantage to put on their necks (that stuff works wonders) and I might even have to flea-bomb. I sure hope not, though..I've never done that before.

"The Graduate" was on Bravo last night. I just adore that movie. Dustin Hoffman really does a brilliant job of playing slightly neurotic, nerdy and nervous characters! I still have "Are you going to Scarborough Fair...Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.." in my head. My mom had the soundtrack to "The Graduate" on album and I remember her playing it when I was young (along with Carol King's "Tapestry")...So I have a special, nostalgic fondness for those two albums. Hmmmm..sometimes I wish I was Elaine Robinson (or do I wish I was MRS. Robinson?) Both, I suppose. I don't fantasize about being Benjamin. Maybe some guys do, though?
