2003-04-11 : Holly Hobbie and the Easter Bunny
red jelly beans...black jelly beans that turn out to be the darkest of purple and are grape-flavored, not licorice-flavored (I AM a fan and eater of licorice jelly beans, I'll have you know!)...a "king" size bag of Lay's chips and I should probably be eating my lunch about now since I've been here for more than 4 hours, but I feel sick and unhungry, just like on those numerous Easter mornings, when I'd rush down and raid my basket (once we were allowed to, that is)....The baskets were always in front of the fireplace. How I've always loved surprises. WHAT could be in the basket...especially..what could be secretly hidden beneath all that garish green grass? What fabulous Xmas present could be underneath all this beautiful and sparkly wrapping? Anyways..on Easter morning I'd take my basket up to my room (so would my sister) and we'd be sitting in our nightgowns, our baskets on our beds (we shared a room) and start chowing down on delicious jelly beans, white chocolate bunnies and chicks on sticks...caramels...my mom bought EVERYTHING from Fannie Mae, so it was heavenly tasting. Then it was time to try to eat breakfast and instead I felt more like vomiting up a multi-colored nightmare of candy. I actually did throw-up one year, but I pretty much nearly did it on purpose cuz I didn't want to go to Easter Sunday Mass.

I read something in Amishboy's diary (I'm too lazy to link, sorry!) about Holly Hobbie. I remember my Hollie Hobbie sheets and comforter. I wish I still had them for nostalgia. I was really into the whole pioneer girl thing (I guess i'm STILL fascinated by it) so I was always reading Laura Ingalls Wilder and loving "Little House on the Prairie" (I was really into "The Waltons", too)

The Ethiopian food was good last night. The Blue Nile was the restaurant we ate in and at first we weren't even sure that it was a restaurant (it had a bar, too) but there were several tables set up with yellow tapestry table clothes (which were all stained with spiced food)...it looked and felt pretty DIRTY in there and the water had a funky taste (or perhaps it was just the glass), but the food was delicious and cheap, and it was amusing trying to get the waitress to understand us when we asked for plates so we wouldn't drop food all over the table. She didn't speak very good English but smiled alot to try to compensate for that. That food fills one up QUICKLY. It must be that spongy bread. We couldn't even finish half of it between the two of us, so I took the leftovers home to Jay.

Tonight The Fireballs of Freedom are playing at the Comet...my fave local watering hole that is just a mere 3-4 blocks from my home so I'll be going there to listen to their LOUD raucous RAWK. I'll be the one wearing pastel green earplugs!
