2008-04-28 : The Swell Season
Larry and I went to see The Swell Season play at Mcdonald Theater last night and it was such an amazing show.

If you've seen the movie, "Once", then you'll probably know that "The Swell Season" is Glen and Marketa (the Irish busker and the Czech pianist) from the movie, along with some of their friends (members of the Glen's other band, The Frames, I believe).

It was a sold out show and the atmosphere in the theater (which is a cool, old theater, by the way) was just relaxed and loving and really beautiful! The whole audience just seemed enthralled with the music. It is really emotional music and Larry stood in back of me the whole show, holding onto me tightly and we swayed back and forth to the music. It was very romantic, actually!

Glen is a hilarious story teller and tends to go on long (and humorous) tangents about what "this song is about" before actually getting to the song.

Def. one of the best shows I've seen in AGES, and it was so mellow, but, MAN, can that guy hit some crazy-ass high notes. Just fantastic. Ok, I'll stop gushing!

Go buy/rent "Once" if you haven't already, and then you'll just HAVE to buy the soundtrack, and check out "The Swell Season" when they come to your town (though the shows are selling out really quick, so get tickets early!)
You won't be disappointed!!
