2002-10-21 : Wet leaves remind me of something from my past
This morning as I was walking to work and kicking around in the piles of leaves that are on the sidewalks, that damp sweet smell that the leaves give off reminded me of same vague childhood memory. My first instinct was that the perfume of the leaves smelled like the pressed powder of an ancient aunt or maybe even the back of a linen closet in my grandma Marie's upstairs hallway. It was just such a deja vu smell and feeling that it made my nose water, my mouth tingle and my teeth hum. I wish I could bottle that scent.
